Mother Tree Goals

RESEARCH

RESEARCH

RESEARCH

Experiment with agroecology and

restoration concepts to find universal

trends across climates and test the

“common knowledge” of the destructive

ecology/agriculture paradigm which

has survived into the present

Acquire knowledge through continuing

education via attending schools,

workshops, seminars, lectures, etc. and

contributing that knowledge to the

collective ecorestoration wisdom via

shared content

Research historical ecological

accounts, beginning locally, to put

together a more coherent story of

ecological changes from human

behavior and to inform Potential Native

Vegetation (PNV) Surveys for Miyawaki

and other wildland restoration projects

EDUCATE

RESEARCH

RESEARCH

Create and offer hands-on

experiential onsite learning

opportunities in ecorestoration and

syntropic agroecology

Develop and share content and

curricula (books, publications, online

resources, presentations, etc)

Organize workshops and seminars in

the fields of ecological restoration

and restorative horticulture

PRACTICE

RESEARCH

PRACTICE

Establish wildland restoration and

agroecology projects to be managed

by nearby individuals, communities,

and organizations

Create forest and agroecology

nurseries to be independently

maintained by communities

Offer practice-related coaching and

support for individuals, communities,

and organizations to maintain

nurseries and expand and maintain

reforestation and agroecology

programs

GOAL #3: Practice Activities

GOAL #1: Research Activities

COLLECT WISDOM & KNOWLEDGE

Experiment with agroecology and restoration concepts, and test the "common knowledge" of the destruction paradigm

  • Side-by-side multivariable desert reforestation strategy test plot experimentation
  • Side-by-side multivariable arid climate dryland and irrigated syntropic agroforestry strategy test plot experimentation
  • Experimentation with conventional wisdom related to early successional species in reforestation or agroecology systems, composting strategies, etc

Acquire knowledge in ecorestoration

and agroecology through continuing

education

  • Education in scientific fields contributing to the collective knowledge base
  • Attending workshops
  • Attending seminars/webinars and lectures
  • Reading books and instructional pamphlets and watching instructional videos and documentaries
  • Finding wise people and organizations to learn from

Research and tell the history of human

behavior and ecology and develop PNV

surveys

  • Research early colonization descriptions of ecosystems and timelines for logging, mining, ranching, farming, etc from written histories
  • Talk to Indigenous elders around the region to learn about precolonization ecology and speciation from oral histories
  • Talk to regional botanists and native plant societies to learn about potential native vegetation (PNV)
  • Develop and publicly share a more detailed ecological history of the region
  • Develop PNV surveys for various local regions

GOAL #2: Education Activities

GOAL #3: Practice Activities

GOAL #1: Research Activities

PACKAGE AND SHARE

WISDOM & KNOWLEDGE

Create and offer hands-on experiential

onsite learning opportunities

  • Establish and manage syntropic garden/farm plots, food forests, and reforestation projects as demonstration sites
  • Establish and manage plant nurseries as demonstration sites and for supplying other internal projects
  • Establish and manage Johnson-Su and other fungal-prominent aerobic compost systems for supplying projects
  • Establish and manage an ecorestoration camp

GOAL #3: Practice Activities

GOAL #3: Practice Activities

GOAL #3: Practice Activities

EMPOWER COMMUNITIES TO PUT KNOWLEDGE & WISDOM INTO PRACTICE

Establish wildland restoration and

agroecology projects to be

managed independently

  • Miyawaki forests
  • Other wildland restoration projects, including reforestation
  • Food forests
  • Syntropic farms and gardens

Create forest and agroecology nurseries

and onsite fungi-prominent compost

systems

  • Create tree/shrub nurseries in collaboration with individuals, communities and organizations
  • Create Johnson-Su and other fungal-prominent aerobic compost systems
  • Train individuals within communities and organizations to run the nurseries and composting systems

Offer coaching and support for

individuals and organizations

  • Training for establishing Miyawaki forests
  • Training for Planting and managing syntropic farms/gardens
  • Consulting and counsel for program participants planting and managing syntropic farms, gardens, and nurseries
  • Consultation for individuals and organizations interested in doing related work
